At Habitat for Humanity of Madison and Clark Counties, we’re on a mission to ensure everyone has a safe, decent place to call home. This mission inspires us to serve our community, not only with our home buyer program but also with basic outdoor home repairs. Through our “A Brush with Kindness” and “Rock the Block” repair programs, we’re reaching out to homeowners with limited and fixed incomes, especially senior adults and individuals with disabilities who aren’t able to manage these repairs themselves and don’t have the resources to hire someone to help. Whether it’s a new coat of paint, fixing up porches, building accessibility ramps, or tidying up yards, these minor repairs performed by Habitat volunteers make a major difference!

The generous support of our community and partners significantly enhances the success and reach of these programs. A shining example of such generosity comes from the Charles M. and Joan R. Taylor Foundation, which donated $25,000 to keep our repair programs humming along. This gift not only bolsters our capacity to serve more families, but it’s also a testament to the power of community support and the difference it can make.

Celebrating the Legacy of Charles and Joan Taylor

Charles Minor Taylor II and Joan Richards Taylor, the couple behind this foundation, led lives that were as impactful as they were inspiring. Charles, born in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, was not just a businessman but an accomplished aviator whose passion for flight led to notable achievements in both civilian and military aviation. Joan, hailing from Kent, England, gained renown as a top model and actress, her elegance and talent bringing her international acclaim.

Their story is a testament to service, adventure, and philanthropy. Charles’s pioneering spirit saw him contributing to aviation development, while his military service during World War II highlighted his commitment to his country. Joan’s contributions to the war effort, combined with her successful career, showcased her resilience and versatility.

Their paths crossed during these tumultuous times, and together, they embarked on a journey of shared commitment to their communities. Their post-war life was marked by continued service and philanthropy, with their legacy of kindness now extending to initiatives like ours through their foundation.

A Legacy That Inspires Action

The Taylors’ legacy is not just preserved in the annals of history but is actively shaping the future of Madison and Clark Counties through programs like “A Brush with Kindness” and “Rock the Block.” Their story inspires us to come together as a community, supporting those in need and making a tangible difference in people’s lives.

We are deeply thankful for the Taylors’ example and the ongoing support from our community. Their lives remind us that we have the power to effect change, to build not just homes but hope, and to create a stronger, more united community through acts of kindness and generosity.

Let’s honor the legacy of Charles and Joan Taylor by continuing to support and uplift one another. Together, we can make a lasting impact, one family, one home, one neighborhood at a time. Join us in this mission, inspired by a couple whose lives remind us of the enduring value of service and the transformative power of community.
