Meet Michael and Amber: A Story of Faithfulness and Diligence
A Leap of Faith
When Michael and Amber first heard about Habitat for Humanity of Madison and Clark Counties, they had no idea it would lead to a life-changing opportunity. As a newly approved Habitat Partner Family, their journey to homeownership is a testament to faith, hard work, and the power of community.
Their journey began with a leap of faith, guided by a message from their pastor. “Our pastor told us earlier on that we were getting ready to move, start packing stuff. You know, we’re gonna get blessed with a house,” Michael recalls. At the time, they’d never spoken to their pastor about changing their living situation, and they didn’t yet know about Habitat’s homeownership program. But they trusted the message and started preparing for their future.
A Glimmer of Things Hoped For
It wasn’t long before they saw a glimmer of the things their faith had hoped for. Only one month after receiving their pastor’s message, Amber’s cousin, Andy, a Habitat homeowner herself, mentioned that Habitat was opening a home application window and encouraged her to apply. Could this be the home that God had for them? They didn’t know, but they stepped out in faith and submitted an application. Despite a challenging living situation with faulty wiring, a cracked foundation, and rising rent, Michael and Amber never gave up hope.
Their organized approach and commitment to avoiding debt made the approval process smooth. After visiting with the family, it was clear that they were financially ready, showed a genuine housing need, and were eager to contribute and learn through sweat equity and homeowner classes. With the support of Mark, an HFHMCC board member, Michael and Amber have been diligently working on their future home, making it their own.
Facing a Brighter Future
Michael and Amber look forward to the stability and safety their Habitat home will provide. “It’s always been a dream to own my home,” says Michael. “We’re looking forward to actually putting in time and, you know, working on it. It makes it more our own.” They are excited that their forever Habitat home will be a place where their sons can play safely, ride bikes, and grow up in a supportive community. The couple envisions cookouts, gatherings around a fire pit, and a home filled with love and laughter.
Michael and Amber’s story is a beautiful example of how faith and hard work can lead to incredible blessings. They encourage others to take a step in faith and apply for a Habitat home, emphasizing the life-changing impact it can have. “What are you going to lose?” Says Amber. “I mean, it’s worth taking the chance of doing the application,”. “Yeah, adds Michael. “It can be a big blessing to start on.”
Michael and Amber’s Habitat story is a testament to the power of faith, community, and the enduring human spirit. Their new home is more than just a house; it’s a foundation for a brighter future.
